Your palmarès is the structured list of what you have done as a dancer: competition placements, finals, tours, the companies you have danced with. Instead of one wall of text, Tanguear lets you write each result as its own entry, keep the competition details with it, and — when the organisers published their results online — check the entry against the source and write the outcome under it.
Who can use the palmarès
The palmarès is part of the Professional profile, which is available to:
- Teachers, at any level
- Dancers who set their level to Expert or above
To reach it, open the app, go to Preferences → Partners and palmarès and scroll to the Professional profile card. Your entries live under The entries. If you do not see the card, your profile does not meet the level requirement yet.
Adding an entry
Tap Add an entry. Two fields are enough:
- Year — a single year (2019) or a span (2014–2018)
- What it was — one line that says what happened
Everything else is optional, but filling it in is what makes an entry verifiable:
- Competition — look it up on Tanguear by name, or type it yourself exactly as the organisers publish it: one different word is enough for Tanguear not to find it in the results.
- Category — choose from the closed list (Tango de Pista, Tango Escenario, Tango Vals, Milonga, and the rest), or name another category if the competition uses its own.
- Position — a place in the ranking (1 to 50), or Finalist / Semifinalist.
- Couple or solo — and, as a couple, your role (leader or follower) and your partner.
If it was a company, a tour or anything else that is not a competition, the year and the description are all you need.
The partner in the competition
When you danced as a couple, tap Partner in the competition to say with whom. Three tabs:
- Your partners — the couples you already confirmed on Tanguear. A confirmed partner's name appears on your profile, always.
- On Tanguear — search anybody who has an account. The name stays on your card, it does not leave it; you can propose the bond, and if they accept, it appears on both profiles.
- Not on Tanguear — write the name as the competition knows them. It appears on your profile only if the check of the entry confirms it.
In the third tab you can optionally invite them to Tanguear with their email address. The address appears nowhere: it only delivers the invitation, which leaves when you save the entry. If they sign up with that address, the bond starts already confirmed and the name stays on both your profiles.
How the check works
Every night Tanguear looks for the results documents the organisers published for the competitions you named, and writes an outcome under each entry:
- Declared — you wrote it; it has not been checked (yet).
- No source to consult — there is no results document for that competition.
- Confirmed by the source — your name and your place appear in the official results.
- Name present in the category table — for finalists and semifinalists: your name appears in the table of that category.
- Looked for and not found — Tanguear read the source and did not find the entry. This never means false: the results may be incomplete, or one word in a name may differ.
Two rules are worth knowing:
- A place in the ranking is looked for line by line, and that is why it stops at 50 — so that a "105th place" is not confirmed by couple number 105 printed in the first column.
- Finalist and semifinalist are not lines of a ranking, so the most a source can say is that your name appears in the table of that category.
If you change anything that decides what Tanguear looks for — the year, the competition, the category, the position, the partner, couple or solo, the role — the entry goes back to Declared and is checked again the next night. The description, instead, you can change whenever you like without losing the outcome.
Importing from the official results
When the official results published by the recognised circuits contain a line under your name, an Import from official results button appears under the palmarès on your own professional profile. From there you choose which results to add — they arrive already confirmed by the source, with nothing to retype.
The button appears only to you, on your own profile, and only when at least one result is matched to your name. If you do not see it, that is not a fault: there may simply be nothing under your name in the archive yet, or you have not competed in a circuit we follow. In that case, keep adding your entries by hand, as above. Under the palmarès you will find a short note that says the same thing, so the absence of the button is never a mystery.
Ordering, editing and deleting
- Order — drag the handle on the left of each card. The order you set is the order everyone reads on your profile.
- Edit — tap the entry to open it again.
- Delete — use Delete entry and confirm. It disappears from your profile; you can always write it again.
Your name in somebody else's entry
Anyone can be named as a partner in somebody else's entry. If your name appears somewhere and you want it gone, tell us: every removal is weighed by hand, by a person.
