Every event on Tanguear can have its own room: a group chat for the people who are coming, where you coordinate the night, say you are on your way, and keep talking after — until the event is over. One room per event, named after it: a weekly milonga keeps the same room all season, not one per night.
Most events have no room. A room exists only if the organiser opened one.
Who opens the room
Only the organiser — the person who published the event — can open it. On the event page, tap the more options button (⋮) and choose Open the event room ("A chat for the people coming, until the event is over"). When it opens, the app says "The room is open" and takes you straight inside. The organiser sits in the room as moderator.
A room can be opened only once per event, and only for events you published — the server refuses anything else.
How you get in
You do not "join" a room: you say you are coming.
- Tap "I'm going" on the event page (it becomes "You're going"). If the room exists, you are seated automatically — no separate step.
- For a recurring event, you first pick which night you mean.
- If the organiser opens the room after people already said they were coming, everybody already marked is seated at once.
- If you un-mark yourself, you leave the room only when you are no longer coming to any night of that event.
The room is private: it is a group conversation among its members, it does not appear in any public list, and people who are not coming are not in it.
Inside the room
The room is an ordinary group conversation in your Messages area:
- Text and emoji — write, react, see when somebody is typing.
- Group information — the member list with their roles (who created it, who is a member) and when each joined.
- Mute — if a room gets too chatty, silence it without leaving it.
What you send stays visible to the members, exactly like any other group conversation.
When the event is over
The room closes two hours after the last night of the event ends — a grace period, so the "thank you for tonight" messages and the photos of the night still have somewhere to go.
A closed room is read-only, forever: nothing is deleted, the conversation stays right where it is in your message list, and everyone who was in it can still read how it went. If you try to write, the text box is gone and a bar says: "This conversation is closed — the event is over."
A room for an event whose nights never end (an open-ended weekly series) is never closed.
How it went before: past editions
Recurring events also tell their history on the event page. When a night runs on its own — not inside a festival — the page shows a "How it went before" section with the event's past editions.
Each card shows the date of that night and how many dancers were recorded at it — "1 dancer", "{count} dancers", or "No one recorded" for a night nobody marked. The cards are there to read: they do not open a page. Up to twelve past nights are shown.
If an event has no recorded history, the section simply does not appear.
